There were so many memorable parts! Walking along the crater of Vesuvius. Also the incredible stunning scenery of the Amalfi coast. A little time to relax by the pool at the hotel, and then helping to make fresh, incredible Italian food.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
The walks are steep! But definitely worth it. Bring good walking shoes/boots and walking sun hats.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes. We ate local fruit, veg, spices and cheese. The hotel was a local family run hotel, and our guide was local.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I really liked Ravello and the Villa Cimbrone -, quiet ,beautiful and chic. Stunning views when the sky cleared on walk of the Gods. Second visit to Pompeii but just as impressive to be reminded of the amazing sophistication of Romans in 79AD I loved the food and the pizza making. The camaraderie of the group and the excellent guide Tony who embellished the walks with snippets of interesting info.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

The hotel staff were local I think. Walking reduces the impact but we had obviously to use transport to return after some walks.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

We would like to thank Susan for her feedback, although we are very sorry that one aspect of the accommodation fell below her expectations. We have been using the Hotel Due Torri for more than 20 years and the feedback we receive about its food is usually extremely positive, with many clients describing it as their trip highlight.
Nevertheless, we would not wish to downplay Susan’s disappointment with the included meals on her trip, and whilst we hope that her experience was a one-off, we have passed her comments on to the hotel’s management team and will be closely monitoring the feedback we
receive on this subject going forward to ensure that the food continues to meet our high standards.

I had a wonderful leader in Eduardo who looked after us as if we were his children. The hotel room was ok but could be better. Vacation was successful and enjoyable because of Eduardo. He made everything so interesting and is so knowledgeable. The private bus drivers were extremely pleasant and good drivers. I do think you should get the hotel to sort out their lack of instant hot water from showers and clean the shower heads so that water comes through. They need to do something about the food. Or perhaps you need to pay them more money so they could buy more fish and proper size pieces of meat ingredients.Read the operator's response here:

We would like to take this opportunity to highlight that the meals provided on this trip is made up of local produce. We appreciate that when group meals are provided, the options may be more limited than an a la carte menu, however, would like to reassure Honor that a fair rate is paid and we do generally receive very good feedback for this trip.

The combination of walking and sightseeing; exploring the village life in Bomerano.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Take some Arnica cream or gel! Walking up and down stairs all day strains legs differently than just walking up and down a hill. I have discovered muscles I did not know I had! Also, take some wet tissues in order to "wash" hands before the sandwich lunch whenever it is not possible to stop at a restaurant or bar, which is definitely the case in low season. Take layers to put on, as the temperature changes quite significantly with altitude.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
We did improve the turnover of the small supermarket next to our hotel, as well as of the two restaurants and some cafes we visited. I do not think our trips reduce environmental impacts, quite the contrary. We hand to use minibuses to get from A to B as local public transport is scarce. And as to conservation, we most probably made erosion worse by walking on paths that we saw were affected by heavy rain and collapsed in places.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

This vacation is marketed as leisurely to moderate. Having taken many walking vacations, this is deffinately moderate. Make sure you do some hill walking before you go otherwise your knees and calves will suffer. As stated in previous reviews, there are lots of uneven steps - literally thousands!!! The walking is either up, up, up or down, down, down - there is little wallking on the flat. Be prepared for the rain - when it rains it really rains.3. I did think that the hotel and the family it was run by greatly benefited from being used by the operator. Not sure about environmental impact, I had to use private transport to the hotel because my flight arrived after the group transfer. However, someone else had the same arrangement. I believe it should have been possible to coordinate both our transports so we only would have needed one taxi.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Being with my dear friends...and the day trip to Mamma Agata's Cooking School (not on the tour operators agenda however).2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
The tour operators brochure mischaracterizes the difficulty of this trip, calling this a "leisurely to moderate walk" (Level 2) and says it is "at your own pace." I generally walk about 4-5 miles every day at about 4 mph, but I do not live in a mountainous area at a higher altitude. I was unable to keep up with the group from the first walking day and was advised to find something else to occupy my time. The primary walking group (those who completed the treks) was extremely fit and the walking including thousands of steps up and down rough, uneven stairs through difficult terrain. There were even complaints about those stopping to take photos. If you have any concerns about your abilities, I recommend you select the self-guided option or look for another area of the world for hiking.3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The town, the hotel and all of the people and experiences we encountered on this trip had a local focus and highlighted the environment as well as the value of small agriculture and food production in the Amalfi region.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
This is difficult for me. I arranged and paid for several of my own days on this tour because of my inability to meet the physical stamina and strength needed to complete even one of the "walks". If you are certain you can keep an excellent pace in very difficult terrain, I would highly recommend this. But I was very disappointed in the rating system and would definitely not take this trip if I had it to do over again. I might select self-guided and do the trip at my own pace with my husband. Just like our own Lake District there are lakes because of the abundance of water and steep hillsides. Both need to be taken into account when packing. Read the trip notes carefully and prepare for the weather. Good walking boots/shoes are essential and trekking poles useful. Do prepare for the walks before you go. They are moderate walks which are challenging at times, as there are some steep ascents and descents and of course there are lots and lots of steps!! If you go in August, it is very, very hot and the walks take a lot longer than you might think.3. Yes. We stayed in a delightful family run hotel and ate local produce over the course of the week. We also used local guides at Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum and local transport was also used.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Absolutely fantastic! It exceeded all expectations. The staff at the hotel were so welcoming and friendly and the scenic walks were very, very enjoyable. Our group leader Suzy was also an amazing guide and her passion, knowledge and love for the area enhanced the whole experience. Go and enjoy! Keep in mind that you move from place to place every few days, so pack accordingly. Some of the hikes were quite strenuous and on unstable surfaces so hiking shoes/boots are a must.3. The stunning views and vibrant colours - the lemon groves, bougainvillea, wild flowers etc. I especially enjoyed 'the walk of the gods'. I enjoyed the company of our friendly group - all lovely people, from various countries.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Take walking poles and walking boots/good trainers. There are strenuous climbs up and down steep steps and slopes (but worth the hard work for the stunning views!)3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Walking the "Walk of the Gods" - spectacular scenery and a lovely walk. Also enjoyed our walk around the rim of Vesuvius with the local guide who was very informative.2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

The trip used local guides for Pompeii and Vesuvius, who were excellent and supported all the staff and employees of the very nice family run hotel.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

As it was predominantly a walking vacation our impact on the environment was reduced. We also supported several local businesses, putting something back into the economy.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Definitely benefitted the local economy which is dependent upon visitors and the environment because it is kept very clean and appealing to meet visitors' expectations.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

The hotel was a family run business and they did have solar and photo voltaic energy. But we often came back to find the heating on and the window open. Also, recycling was not obvious to us.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Thank you for your feedback on your recent Amalfi coast trip and was pleased to read you enjoyed the Vesuvius walk and indeed the views are impressive from there.
In regards tie your comments I just wanted to respond to the aspect of the benefits of the trip. We have used Braccicorti for many years and this farmhouse is owned by the Giovannetti family in fact 3 generations of the family live in the hotel, they produce a considerable quantity of local produce including wine and honey and also buy from local farmers and thus this money goes directly to the local community which we have been involved with for many years.
In addition the majority of the staff employed in the hotel are all from the village of Bomerano and the hotel is a vital source of employment in the community So we can assure you that your vacation did benefit the wider local community

The amazing view of the Sorrento Penisula when we arrived at the top of Monte Tre Calli and the fantastic scenery walking along the Amalfi coast. The walk of the Gods ending up in Positano was a fabulous walk and something I have always wanted to do - it definitely met my expectations:-)2. Yes, the local hotel was supported well as was the local bakery for lunch. The visits to the cheese making farm and the local bar were a great insight into local life.4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
